POSITION TITLE: Cafe Manager

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Center Director of Operations

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Salary

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cafe Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Cafe in accordance with the goals and objectives set by the Assistant Center Director of Operations.

The Cafe Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. 3-5 years of restaurant/cafe experience or food related field experience, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
  4. Familiar with operation and basic maintenance of various food and beverage equipment.
  5. Committed to quality service, food, and beverage knowledge.
  6. Basic math skills.
  7. Aware of local, state, and federal health and sanitation laws.
  8. 2-4 years of demonstrated personnel management experience.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure sufficient supplies to maintain the daily menu; order food and beverage supplies as needed and monitor consumption levels; ensure that any cash expenditure for provisions for the cafe are covered by receipt. Occasionally pick up supplies and food items as needed.
  2. Achieve budgeted objectives. Proactively manage payroll and food costs (i.e., Prime costs) to stay within industry benchmark standards. Implement efficiency initiatives as appropriate.
  3. Monitor daily sales and take into account holidays, special events and other activities that might require extra supplies or specific requirements.
  4. Provide full menu options throughout the opening times of the cafe and maintain a friendly atmosphere for all employees, members, and guests. Work with the Kitchen Manager in planning menus.
  5. Seek feedback from guests and routinely respond to guest requests.
  6. Oversee daily operations of food vending machines including inventory, restocking and cash handling.
  7. Hire, train and schedule cafe team members to reflect business needs. Take into account any additional events such as holidays, illnesses, etc.
  8. Supervise cafe team members in their daily work. Provide regular monthly training including customer service, health and safety, department and company rules, menu changes and food handling to team members (full time, part time, on-call, and volunteers).
  9. Ensure the cafe is compliant with health codes and sanitation standards and have team members up to date on health and hygiene certificates.
  10. Ensure the cafe is clean, safe, and presentable always.
  11. Ensure that all team members complete their time sheets or other relevant documentation as requested and that these are then forwarded to the proper department for approval and processing.
  12. Ensure the cafe building, equipment and furnishings are properly maintained and to notify the Associate Director of Finance and Food & Beverage of any damage, areas requiring non-routine service, etc. Schedule equipment maintenance with vendors, as needed.
  13. Conduct and report monthly inventory to the accounting department. Ensure daily transactions are executed with sound financial policies and procedures.
  14. May prepare and cook whatever is necessary to maintain the daily menu.
  15. See that all injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
  16. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  17. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  18. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  19. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds and occasionally more than 25 pounds. This employee must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and special events as needed.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The position requires that individuals are able to function in close quarters during busy periods, lift heavy objects and work near hot ovens and grills.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Knowledge of the following equipment and not limited to: Coffee brewing equipment, cold beverage equipment, air pots and thermal carafes, display cases, blenders & juice machines, knives, warmers, commercial microwave ovens, Panini sandwich grills, and toasters.

TB Certificate

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program.
