About the role

Position Description:
While working under direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Auxiliary Operator operates a front-end loader, and otherheavy mobile equipment, to manage the facility's fuel system and support auxiliary systems within the Waste
Processing Facility.
Responsibilities:

  • Operates motorized equipment used in moving municipal solid waste (MSW) and refuse-derivedfuel (RDF), such as front-end loader, skid loader, dozer, and yard mule.
  • Responsible for handling municipal solid waste (MSW) in receiving areas and on conveyors andcrossbar.
  • Accountable for managing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in storage area and on pan conveyors.
  • Receives and shreds bulky MSW and separates and transports to designated area for use as boiler fuel.
  • Manages the picking station.
  • Monitors age and quality of RDF fuel in storage.
  • Directs and inspects collection vehicles and loads of waste.
  • Patrols work areas periodically to identify any unusual operating conditions.
  • Communicates abnormal operating activities to the control room or shift supervisor.
  • Inspects equipment for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts.
  • Reports defects or damage of equipment to the shift supervisor.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, lubricates equipment, performs routine repairs and oil changes on
  • equipment, and assists mechanics in performing more complex repairs as directed, as well as routinecleanup.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by supervision, including fill-in as a control room operator.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner

Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must have at least 18 months' experience as a Process Equipment Operator with knowledge of heavyequipment operations, including their components. Forklift certification.


Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use handsto finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheralvision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts,fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is frequentlyexposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme heat; and risk of radiation.
The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and explosives. The noise level in thework environment is usually very loud.

Total Rewards & Compensation:

  • Competitive Base Salary

  • The expected hourly rate for this position is $ 32.50 - $40.63. This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability, and location. Covanta is committed to paying its staff equitably, and these ranges should not be considered career salary limits or caps.
