POSITION TITLE: Mind Body Spirit (MBS) Coach

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Center Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Temporary, Part Time, Hourly

GENERAL STATEMENT:

RELIGIOUS SUMMARY:

Although this position does not require or confer ordination, only Christians with a demonstrated strong personal faith and agreement with the teaching of Holy Scripture as explained in The Salvation Army "Articles of War" and the "Handbook of Doctrine" will be considered for this position. Maintaining a lifestyle and witness consistent with the above stated documents is required for continued employment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The MBS Coach will provide 1:1 coaching and development for participants of the Mind, Body, and Spirit Program. The MBS Coach will work with clients on goal setting, personal growth, and behavior modification to help them achieve their plans in life. The MBS coach will assess the Mind, Body and Spirit needs of participants and provide ongoing support and expertise through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation& evaluation of client's progress. MBS coach will collaborate with the Salvation Army Kroc Center Hawaii departments and community partners for a holistic and wrap around approach that will aim to meet identified goals in the clients individualized action plan and create an environment of stability and a network of support. MBS coach will be expected to keep track of client notes and action plans through the collection and reporting of client. The MBS coach provides services according to the standards of The Salvation Army, that are culturally competent, ethical and promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. An associate degree or equivalent years of work experience in psychology, social development, Human Services Administration, or case management
  2. Pertinent Coaching qualification, preferably issued by the International Coaching Federation.
  3. Understand human psychology.
  4. Must possess a valid Hawaii Driver's license.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Completion of an applicable advanced degree is urged.
  2. Minimum two to five years' experience in MBS coaching and/or counselling
  3. Knowledge of human growth and development; knowledge of social and economic problems
  4. Demonstrated coaching skills.
  5. Ability to encourage introspection, connection, and ambition.
  6. Ability to influence and change individual behavior and assist individuals to achieve a high level of success and productiveness.
  7. Excellent listening skills; Non-judgmental, reflexive, and empathic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for all client management & client contact in the Mind, Body & Spirit Program.
  2. Provide quality and professional MBS coaching to up to 8 clients every 3 months using an agreed delivery method.
  3. Develop an initial assessment process for prospective clients.
  4. Conduct intake, complete comprehensive evaluation of each client's life situation and needs, help client's identify short-term and long-term goals and prepare a detailed action plan.
  5. Involve the client at all times in the setting of goals and objectives, reviewing and agreeing future actions.
  6. Provide professional support to clients by maintaining regular contact & ongoing coaching sessions. Meet clients weekly to discuss progress and next steps.
  7. Maintain working knowledge of The Kroc Center Hawaii programs and community resources to assist clients in achieving their goals. Facilitate access and provide linkage of these resources to clients.
  8. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with Kroc Center departments and service providers.
  9. Network with outside appropriate agencies and build relationships with community partners.
  10. Manage client's advancement toward goals and monitor the effectiveness of Kroc Center services.
  11. Consistently schedule coaching appointments ahead of time with client, making sure client is aware of the appointment. This is to include dealing with non-attendance of clients and to communicate effectively with other Kroc Center Hawaii departments.
  12. Maintain the daily record of work activities, completing daily/ weekly MBS client progress notes.
  13. Support clients' spiritual growth by connecting them to pastoral care representative for pastoral care.
  14. Encouraging continued and sustainable progress with clients.
  15. Coach clients in self-direction and advocate on their behalf when necessary.
  16. Compile monthly statistical report as required by the Division.
  17. Maintain positive working relations with Salvation Army representatives, volunteers and all agencies providing services to clients.
  18. Attend department meetings as assigned.
  19. Non-negotiable adherence to all pertinent ethical guidelines & Federal regulations. Maintain appropriate confidentiality within the team, sharing information to the right person at the right time.
  20. Provide documentation for General Incident Reports
  21. Serve as legally required Mandated Reporter, communicating immediately to supervisor, and completing Notice of Concerns when necessary.
  1. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  2. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  3. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Provide a minimum of 19.5 hours of availability per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co=workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/ giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/ composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/ working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), video projectors, sound-systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, 10 key calculator and automobile.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be at Kroc Center Hawaii in Kapolei. Attendance at training courses and conferences, may be required.
