CLASSIFICATION Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY: The Corps Program Assistant's primary function is to assist the Corps Officers in the ongoing operation and ministry of the Corps, with a focus on youth and children's ministries, as well as the development and stewardship of life group ministries.

The Corps Program Assistant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED WORK AND EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of five years working in a business work environment.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Publisher.
  • Ability to work well with young people and adults.
  • Must be motivated, a self-starter, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills are a must- both written and oral.
  • Basic skills in operating office equipment (i.e. copiers, fax machines, etc.)
  • Ability to supervise staff & volunteers.
  • Must have a sense of cleanliness, tidiness, and neatness.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Exposure to and participation in the creative development, implementation, and leadership of The Salvation Army corps program
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, Salvation Army programs is preferred.
  • Understand The Salvation Army standards, philosophy, and policy and a willingness to adhere to them.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Office clerical work, including composing letters, composing e-mails, answering phones, filing, and copying.
  • Weekly Congregational Life Meetings. As a member of the ministry team, participate in the planning and discussion of corps business. Provide feedback and input. Execute assigned action items, as required.
  • Children and Youth - Regularly support the Family Ministry Coordinator to support children and youth ministries, including, but not limited to Sunday School, Wednesday Club, and other children's ministries.
  • Support Corps in planning, implementing, and evaluating Salvation Army corps programs and ministries. Which includes but not limited to: Women's, Men's, Young Adults, etc.
    • Assist with Corps programs and activities.
    • Assist with Corps seasonal activities (e.g. Troops)
    • Assist with Corps special events, as needed.
  • Stats - Assist the Congregational Life Manager in collecting & submitting statistical reports monthly. Maintain all records and reports as necessary.
  • Actively participate in a Life Group.
  • Work closely with the corps officers to gain a greater understanding of corps leadership.
  • Responsible for life group ministries, including but not limited to the recruitment, training, and encouragement of life group leaders and host homes, growth in the number of life groups, increase in the number of participants, and health of each life group.
  • Implement Spiritual Gifts training seminars that allow people to discover their spiritual gifts and become engaged in the ministries of the church.
  • Develop and lead the Life Group leadership and coaching teams to ensure support and training for life group leaders.
  • Engage and encourage the entire church to regularly participate in Life Groups.
  • Identify and implement systems to support thriving Life Group ministry.
  • Identify and communicate a clear vision for Life Groups.
  • Identify and set clear service standards and expectations.
  • Develop recruiting systems to engage everyone in the church.
  • Develop systems for raising new Life Group leaders.
  • Plan and organize Life Group appreciation gatherings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/ or balancing/stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; interacting with children.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

  • The position requires speaking to co-workers, children, parents, and vendors.
  • Requires written communication to and from co-workers, children, parents, and vendors.
  • Requires visiting/working at other worksites.
  • Requires communication via the latest technologies.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, point-of-sale kiosks, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephones, microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobile.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most of the work will be indoors at the new Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center). There will also be times when this employee will be outdoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii. Attendance at training and conferences may be required in Hawaii and the mainland. Uniforms may be required, such as wearing Kroc Center Hawaii apparel.
