POSITION TITLE: Banquet Server

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Sales and Events Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: On Call, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Banquet Server will be responsible primarily for food and beverage service, clearing tables, set up and clean-up of all banquet functions and will be expected to meet and exceed the expectations of all of guests. They will be dedicated to provide an exceptional experience at each celebration.

The Banquet Server will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Fluent or proficient in the English language.
  3. At least one year previous banquet or restaurant service experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Previous customer service experience preferred.
  2. Extensive experience in food and beverage industry, specifically banquet service desired.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a commitment to customer service and guest satisfaction.
  2. Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  3. Able to communicate effectively with event organizers, team members, and guests. The ability to follow verbal directions accurately in a primarily English-speaking environment is crucial to ensuring seamless banquet operations and providing exceptional service.
  4. Performs all guest contact activities such as serving food and beverage, responding to guests' inquires in cordial, efficient and professional manner.
  5. Ensures food and beverage is served while maintaining a consistent presentation and proper temperatures.
  6. Have knowledge of events, menu items, table settings, service ware and the correct preparation and garnishing methods.
  7. Follow directions from Banquet Event Order (BEO) with strong attention to detail.
  8. Report needed repairs or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  9. Respond quickly to requests from guests, clients, supervisors or management in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
  10. Resolve and follow up with guest issues promptly and with great care and effectiveness to ensure satisfaction.
  11. Maintain supplies neatly and organized to standards.
  12. Prepare event spaces by setting tables with tablecloths and place settings, setting up buffets and removing all service items like extra glassware and service utensils.
  13. Carry large trays or multiple plates of hot food to serve guests.
  14. Refill beverages as needed, remove each course of dinnerware and replenish flatware as needed.
  15. Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness and wash hands frequently to avoid cross-contamination.
  16. Perform post-event cleaning tasks and breakdown of service.
  17. Adhere to professional grooming and uniform standards.
  18. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  19. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  20. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  21. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; continuous standing; continuous walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; continuous pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds without assistance, and occasionally up to 60 pounds with assistance.

The position requires talking to co-workers, guests, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, guests, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, guests, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work will be indoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii Education & Resource Conference Center, Classrooms, Kitchen, administrative offices and anywhere else throughout the Center where banquet service may be needed. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office, cell, PDA), and 10-key calculator, various equipment such as coffee and espresso machines and other kitchen appliances.
