Job Description
Primary Purpose of Job
Directs and manages the model risk management program and leads the model validation assessment activities. Directs and manages the capital and liquidity stress testing activities. Provides data analytics in support of the Bank's enterprise risk management program. Serves as an advisor for modeling techniques and complex analytical methods, calculations, analysis and interpretation.

Major Job Accountabilities
  • Ensures the model risk management program and framework remains relevant and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Keeps current with industry best practices relating to model risk management and recommends changes; and
    • Maintains model inventory.
  • Creates tools to help ensure that model developers/owners and model validators effectively fulfill their responsibilities pursuant to the model risk management framework.
  • Provides effective challenge of model validations on qualified models, including review of models for conceptual soundness, accuracy, limitations, operational processes, data integrity and quality, and model documentation through model validation assessments.
  • Directs and manages the capital and liquidity stress test activities.
    • Develops plausible scenarios with supporting economic indicators and assumptions to facilitate capital and liquidity stress testing.
    • Coordinates cross functional efforts to ensure effective processes.
    • Assesses the analysis and conclusions to ensure conceptual soundness.
  • Develops analytical methods to support quantification of significant risks to support the Bank's capital stress testing and enterprise risk management programs. Provides recommendations, information and reports in support of senior management's and the Board's oversight of the Bank's risk management practices and tracks management's remediation.
  • Establishes, fosters and maintains working relationships with all levels of the Bank to support efficient and effective modeling techniques and complex analytical methods, tools and calculations while maintaining objectivity.
  • Works with regulators and internal/external auditors to facilitate their oversight of the Bank by providing requested information and maintaining effective communications.
  • Helps drive results from analytical types across the organization who own or build models and who are a critical part of the capital and liquidity stress testing process.


Experience Required

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of risk or finance experience with relevant work experience within a financial institution in quantitative modeling or quantitative risk capacity.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with constructing models for valuation and risk management; demonstrated experience in statistical modeling; Experience in credit analysis, commercial credit or lending related, interest rate risk, liquidity, capital and operational risk related experience in a financial institution preferred.


Required Skills or Training

  • Knowledge of credit portfolio and risk issues, credit policies and procedures as well as bank regulatory laws, policies and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of interest rate, liquidity, capital and operational risk issues, policies and procedures as well as bank regulatory laws, policies and procedures preferred.
  • Analytical skills to perform critical reviews of model validation as part of a risk-based monitoring program.
  • Exceptional conceptual and quantitative problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
  • Motivated to manage and work independently, effectively, and efficiently under time constraints.
  • Motivated to independently identify areas needing help and willingness to help all to ensure proper outcomes and to ensure continued improvement, elevation of skills across the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access & PowerPoint and other data management tools
  • Must be able to effectively use statistical analysis packages (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Stata), data bases, database management systems (e.g. SQL, ODBC) in support of complex analysis.
  • Ability to:
    • Prioritize and manage multiple assignments with strong organizational skills.
    • Monitor and interpret information for decision-making and presentation.
    • Meet schedules and deadlines with thorough, accurate and quality work.
    • Remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
    • Communicate technical information to any audience verbally and in writing.
