POSITION TITLE: Personal Trainer - In-Session

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Health & Wellness Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, On Call, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Personal Trainer provides personalized attention, professional instruction, and exercise programming to each member and guest to maximize their health, fitness, and wellness goals while providing the highest level of customer service.

The Personal Trainer will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school graduate or GED.
  2. Two years' experience within the fitness industry or equivalent degree which includes knowledge of machine weights, free weights and cardio equipment.
  3. Certified Trainer (ACE, NASM, ACSM, or NSCA)
  4. Current CPR and First Aid certification (may be acquired within 60 days following employment).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assess fitness by identifying short-term and long-term fitness issues using physical assessments.
  2. Develop fitness plans through physical assessment results by designing exercise routines, explaining fitness equipment that combine strength and cardio training, and offering nutritional guidance and accountability through goal-based tracking and monitoring.
  3. Effective motivation and communication skills, interpersonal skills, sales and marketing skills.
  4. Train, motivate and support members and guests. Provide a positive experience by consulting with them on proper techniques in free weights, strength training machines, and functional training exercises that support their efforts to achieve their personal fitness objectives.
  5. Coach clients and guests on form and movement, helping them focus on and maximize their workout and their positive experience at the fitness center.
  6. Conduct initial consultation session for new clients to include pre-participation screening, Medical History and Lifestyle, and others questionnaires. Refers client to appropriate personal trainer level based on needs/situation, if necessary.
  7. Complete and maintain accurate and current client information including
    1. Modified ParQ
    2. Physician Release Form- if needed,
    3. Medical History and Lifestyle form,
    4. Informed Consent(if fitness assessments conducted),
    5. Release of Liability,
    6. Signed Client Policies and Procedures Form,
    7. Results of /fitness evaluation( if any),
    8. Exercise program plan, and
    9. Client activity/progress charts
  8. Responsible for meeting revenue/sessions and performance goals.
  9. Build new client base and retain current clients.
  10. Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
  11. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  12. Respond to and report accidents and incidents to Health & Wellness Director.
  13. Document maintenance needs and submit to Health & Wellness Director.
  14. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  15. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  16. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Provide a minimum of 20 hours of availability per week.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
  18. Maintain current certifications.
  19. Adhere to the dress code and the Health and Wellness core Values.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Excellent physical condition and capable of meeting the demands of the position.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 40 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business.

Work will be at Kroc Center Hawaii in Kapolei. Attendance at trainings and conferences, may be required.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

Certified Instructor (ACE, AFAA, NETA, NASM, ACSM)

Current CPR and AED certificates

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program.
