POSITION TITLE: Child Watch / Game Room Attendant DEPARTMENT: Kroc Center Hawaii - Member Services SUPERVISOR: Member Services Manager FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is a spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people. POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Watch Attendant's primary function is to supervise both large and small groups of children ages 6 months to 11 years old in short-term childcare while parents or guardians are utilizing The Salvation Army Kroc Center. The Child Watch Attendant will be responsible for receiving payment of child watch services by cash, check, credit card or debit card through a Point of Sales (POS) system, providing information and answering questions. The Child Watch Attendant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to use computers and learn new software.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with guests, members and staff.
  • Ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers and peers.
  • TB clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 months experience in dealing and working with children from ages 6 months to 11 years old.
  • Experience with a Point of Sales (POS) system preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including working weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Create, promote and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment among program participants, staff, community members, church attenders, volunteers and all guests entering Kroc Center.
  • Provide a safe, supervised and developmentally appropriate play environment for the children of members and guests of the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Meet and greet all members, guests, staff and volunteers with a smile and hello. Make eye contact, use member's, guest's or child's name whenever possible and ensure questions about programs and procedures are answered.
  • Handle and resolve member and guest complaints by obtaining and evaluating all relevant data. Follow up with members and guests to ensure high-level satisfaction. Communicate guest complaints to the Child Watch Lead and/or Member Services Manager if further action is needed.
  • Observe, organize and participate in children's play activities such as craft activities, creative play, board games, puzzles, etc.
  • Use positive behavioral methods to encourage independence and responsibility. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently and coach others to do the same.
  • Help children overcome issues of separation from their parents or guardians.
  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. Be sensitive to children's individual needs. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages and abilities.
  • Facilitate check in and check out procedures according to protocol, ensure proper identification of adult designated to pick up the child and maintain accurate rosters/logs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member and guest personal information.
  • Receive payment by cash, check, credit card or debit card for Child Watch services. Compute and record totals of transactions; issue receipts, credits or change due to guests or members utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) kiosk system.
  • Responsible for all opening and closing duties and securing the POS area at the end of shift.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are sanitized and in good condition, removing any items that become broken or unsafe. Communicate with the Child Watch Lead or Member Services Coordinator to address maintenance related issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the Child Watch facility, POS kiosks and desk area.
  • Report any suspected abuse or lack of adherence to Child Watch policy to the Member Services Manager.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to the Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Available to work a flexible schedule that includes working on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
MENTAL DEMANDS: The position must prioritize and organize work assignments and take projects from beginning through completion. The work will be in a fast paced environment and requires changing priorities constantly while meeting deadlines. The position must maintain poise under pressure, respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner, and be resilient in the face of workplace stressors such as customer service complaints, immediate needs of children, maintaining the security of people and property, competing priorities, etc. This position must maintain a self-motivated and self- directed schedule, able to work with limited supervision, and in a team setting with other professionals. This position must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work, exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 20 independently and occasionally more than 20 pounds with assistance. The Child Watch Attendant may be lifting and carrying children and equipment and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The Child Watch Attendant will be expected to help clean and maintain equipment and facility and may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, guardians, staff and themselves. The Child Watch Attendant may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy. Must be capable of meeting the demands of a short-term childcare facility. COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies. The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Activity mats & tables, classroom chairs, blocks, carts, toys, arts & crafts accessories, books, classroom lockers/storage units, diaper changing tables, easels, etc. Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, point of sale kiosks, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office, cell, PDA), microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work will be indoors at Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii). There will also be times where this employee will be outdoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii. Attendance at trainings and conferences may be required. The Child Watch Attendant will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Child Watch Lead will have to supervise all children at all times. Kroc Center uniform apparel are required. CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: This position requires a TB Clearance. Candidate must hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within a reasonable amount of time after hire date.
