Responsible for the implementation of research study protocol. Accountable for documentation, data collection and case management of study site research subjects. Interviews, prepares, and educates patients. Prepares and administers vaccine or study drug per physician's order. Develops long and short term follow-up plans. Collects research lab specimens as needed. Assists Regional research team. Travels to other sites as needed to support research team.
Essential Responsibilities:
Searches for appropriate study population. Screens potential research patients/subjects with attention to established exclusion and inclusion criteria. Evaluates subject appropriateness and ability to participate in study program.
Prepares and participates for study by developing subject flow charts, protocol summaries, instruction and data sheets, maintaining supplies, staffing, obtaining informed consent.
Interprets research project to potential subjects and others.
Works collaboratively with staff at the study site to minimize clinical workflow disruptions.
Assesses patient symptomatology. Obtains, organizes, and processes research specimens for analysis. Verifies and reviews data collected with research team for accuracy and completeness.
Schedules and follows research subjects on regular outpatient, inpatient, or diagnostic visits as required by study to evaluate compliance with and response to protocols.
Administers research medications if dictated by physician order.
Receives research drug and maintains an accurate drug accountability system in accordance with FDA guidelines.
Clinical functions as appropriate to study needs, training, education or licensure, and as deemed competent.
Maintains accurate and complete records on research patients (including nursing documentation, cataloging and recording of all data) as required by study protocol and KP policies.
Participates in audit of clinical studies by sponsors or regulatory agencies.
Insures appropriate follow-up is completed as necessary.
Participates in computer data entry.
Provides in-services to staff as requested.
Participates in unit and departmental quality assurance.
May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency, and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care on the unit.
Provides direct patient care on an as needed basis. Provides services that are within scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to clinical role performed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum three (3) years as a registered nurse.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
Valid Hawaii RN license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure) upon date of hire.
Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
Additional Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in oral communication; written communication; adaptability/flexibility; change management, and the ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Research experience within operating health care system.
Clinical experience appropriate to study needs or management experience.
Phlebotomy skills.
